National Education Show 2007
It was 07/07/07,and we, the primary 5 pupils ,went on a trip to view the National Day Parade Rehearsal, also known as NE show. This year was the first time the National Day celebration was held at Marina Bay ,the world's largest floating platform. It was also my very first time that I was watching the National Day Parade live and I felt very lucky that I could be there, while other Singaporeans were fighting over the tickets to the parade!
I enjoyed most parts of the show as there were lots of clourful lights and graceful dancers. The part where I enjoyed most was when the fireworks"came to life'! It was so spectacular and colourful that it was like the colourful chocolate "M & M" shooting up the sky in patterns and lots of different loud piercing sounds.I could hear 'oohing' and 'aahing' around me and lots of clicking of the camera.
I also liked the scene where the giant jellyfish came up from the river. It was very 'magical' and I felt I was in paradise.
The fun pack was very compact and I could find almost anything I need in it.It was very creative, useful and innovative too!The fun pack also came in a few colours.I loved the "star-clapper" and the electronic fan the best!I did not really know that Singapore was so advanced in technology!Wow!My family was so envious,we could just unzip a strip and the bag became smaller!
When we were singing our national anthem and saying our pledge,I felt very proud to be a Singaporean. The N.E. show was so good that the people going to the NDP 2007 would surely enjoy it.It was such an enjoyable experience at Marina Bay that I almost did not want to go home that day!
The N.E. show made me realise that we must defend our country and do our part as a Singaporean.

Teacher's Day Celebration
" Screeeeh! " The shrill screeching sound was an indication that an announcement was about to be broadcast over the P. A. system. " Sorry for the interruption. All the classes please go to the hall for the concert now. Thank you. "
It was the eve of Teachers' Day.And like the past, the school will be celebrating it by having a Teachers' Day concert. There will be many other exciting activities planned just for teachers to thank them for their hard work and effort in helping their students to get good results for their examinations. Most of the pupils of Gongshang Primary School had brought gifts and cards for their hardworking and nice teacher. The gesture had moved some teachers to tears of joy!
After making sure that the whole school was in the school hall, the announcer addressed them enthusiastically,"It is the eve of Teacher's Day!I'm sure every teacher in this school is enjoying himself or herself right now!We had put on this concert to show our gratitude towards the teachers who have taught us so patiently. We will have Malay and Chinese dancers performing for us!Now,let's welcome the Malay Dance onstage! Please give them a round of applause!"
The Malay Dance members danced very gracefully.Soon, everyone was engrossed in watching their dance. The lyrics of the song were slow and calm and it suited their dance very well.Soon, the dance came to an end and the audience all clapped loudly for them.
"That was a great performance from our beautiful and graceful Malay Dance Club! Now, it's turn for the Chinese Dance Club!"
The Chinese Dance's type of dance was quite opposite to Malay dance. The Chinese Dance members jumped very gracefully and the audience felt very alive just watching them perform. The lyrics were quick and catchy. And soon, the audience who were Chinese, were singing along with the music.
Then,an accident happened. Two of the Chinese dancers wearing cheongsams were so engrossed in their dance steps that they were unaware that they were dancing closer and closer to each other.Until...they accidentally banged into each other's head and fell down. They were both holding their heads in pain!
The music stopped, and for a moment there was silence. No one spoke. Then,a pupil laughed and pointed at the 'funny' sight before him.His laughter was 'contagious' and soon, almost all the audience, made up of students, parents and teachers, started laughing hysterically.
Immediately, two prefects ran onstage and helped the two dancers down the stage. The announcer soon silenced the audience and carried on with the concert by making the pupils sing the teacher's day song they had learnt during their music lessons.
The concert soon came to an end. Before being dismissed by the teacher, the principal came onstage. She spoke angrily to the people who had laughed at the accident."Do you know that it was very cruel of you to laugh at the two dancers who had fallen down?It was already a painful experience and the two dancers were very embarrassed and hurt by you!Did you consider their feelings?"Then, she passed the microphone to a teacher who dismissed all the students.
What was supposed to be a happy day turned into a "sad and lecturing day!"It was all because of the few people who had laughed at the hurt dancers. It was really bad of them to do that and I hope they will turn over a new leaf.

A visit to the hospital
It was a slow and dreary afternoon. The wind seemed to have stopped and the rays of the heartless sun beamed down like a thousand razor blades. My classmate had dengue fever and was warded in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. She had to be hospitalised for a few weeks to recover.
I decided to go to the hospital with my mother to visit her.We bought a bouquet of flowers and some fruit to be given to her.Soon,we were in the car,on our way to the hospital.
When we reached the hospital,we immediately went into the ward my classmate,Clare, was in.I saw many sick people on beds, some coughing and some sneezing.I could also smell the smell of medicine in the air.Suddenly,I spotted Clare lying in a bed,her face quite drained of colour and looking very exhausted. My mother and I quickly approached her and handed her the bouquet of flowers and the fresh cut fruit. We also wished her to get well soon and to get back to school to have lessons very soon.
We sat down on the chairs beside Clare's bed and observed the hospital ward.Ther were some nurses and doctors attending to some of the sick patients. Some relatives or friends of the patients were also sitting beside them. The nurses were checking the conditions of the sick people and were taking their temperature with a thermometer.
Soon,it was Clare's turn to take her temperature. We stood aside as the doctor put the thermometer into her ear. After the doctor has gone, I asked Clare ,"What was your temperature? Is it normal?"
"The doctor told me that I am recovering very well and I could go home after a few days!" Clare replied happily with a huge grin on her face.
"Yay!Congrats! We are so happy for you !" My mother and I whooped with joy and danced around together in the ward!
We stopped dancing as a lot of people started glaring at us.They must be thinking that we are very inconsiderate. My mother and I quickly opologised to the patients and then asked Clare,"So,are you feeling alright now?Do you need more rest ?"
Clare replied ,"I'm fine but I am now feeling very tired. The doctor wants to put me under observation for a few more days, then,I can go home!I really do look forward to being discharged."
"If you are really very tired,we will take our leave now.Do rest well!"I said. After that,my mother and I walked out of the ward quietly and went home.
The visit to the hospital made me realised that we should not make noise or play in the ward as the patients will be disturbed and will not be able to rest well.It is very inconsiderate to do that too. So,I will not be inconsiderate and disturb the sick patients the next time I visit the hospital!

Ha Ha
"I cannot go to school today,"Said little Peggy Ann McKay."I have the measles and the mumps,A gash, a rash, and purple bumps. My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,I'm going blind in my right eye.My tonsils are as big as rocks,I've counted sixteen chicken pox.And there's one more - that's seventeen! And don't you think my face looks green? My leg is cut, my eyes are blue-It might be instamatic flu.I cough and sneeze and gasp and chokeI'm sure that my left leg is broke. My hip hurts when I move my chin,My belly button's caving in,My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,My 'pendix pains each time it rains. My nose is cold, my toes are numb,I have a sliver in my thumb. My neck is stiff, my spine is weak.I hardly whisper when I speak. My tongue is filling up my mouth,I think my hair is falling out.My elbow's bent - my spine ain't straight. My temperature is one-o-eight.My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,There is a hole inside my ear.I have a hangnail, and my heart is-...WHAT?What's that? What's that you say?You say today is...Saturday?G'bye, I'm going out to play!"

~composition~Recount of trip to England
Recount of trip to England
Amanda, Jasmine and Gladys were very excited as they would be going to England for three days and it was wintertime. They would be staying at Gladys' aunt's terrace house and her aunt would take them shopping and sightseeing for a total of three days!
On the day of their departure, they were so excited that they could not tie up their shoelaces! Even though Gladys had been to England to visit her aunt several times before, this might be her first encounter with snow! It would also be Amanda and Jasmine's first time on an aeroplane and all by themselves without their parents around too! They were led to the 'Raffles Class' section on the plane where a gentle-looking stewardess brought them some cushions and covers to ensure they were sitting comfortably. "Wow," Gladys thought drowsily, England, here we come!"
Gladys' aunt, Aunt Marie, met them at the airport in England. She had a pleasant smile on her face and greeted them warmly. A huge limousine waiting patiently at the car park was their means of transport back to the terrace house. It had been a long and tiring trip from Singapore to England and the time zones were all different. The trio was so tired that they were asleep within three shakes of a tail.
The very next morning, the girls were refreshed and full of energy. They ate a healthy and delicious breakfast of toast and eggs with runny yolk before Aunt Maria took them out. It had starting snowing since the week before they arrived and the lakes were all frozen stiff, ready to be skid on. The trio had practiced skiing before in ice rinks. They were glad to see the frozen waters. They fetched their skis and ran out of the house to the lake opposite it. Soon, they were shrieking happily, with smiles plastered on their faces.Seeing what fun they were having, Aunt Marie decided to join them.
Suddenly, a cold white-coloured thing hit Jasmine right on her face. It was snow! Gladys and Amanda shrieked with laughter and Jasmine declared, "This is war!" She gathered and handful of snow and flung it at Amanda. Amanda did not pause to counter-attack. Immediately, a series of seemingly hailstones rained on Jasmine's head. Soon, Gladys joined in the fun and the three girls threw snowballs at each other and made a gigantic snowman, which they named ‘Frosty the Snowman’! As it was nearing lunch lunchtime, Aunt Marie returned to the house to whip up a delicious lunch for the girls.
As the girls were playing joyfully, Aunt Marie appeared from the kitchen to inform them that lunch was hot and ready for them. The dripping and happy trio trooped into the kitchen, to find huge mugs of hot chocolate and freshly roasted chicken with green peas. As they set their eyes upon the delicious feast, their mouths started to water and they started devouring it.” Don’t gobble, you’ll choke!”Aunt Marie calmed the girls, smiling affectionately at them.
“After lunch, I’m going to bring you to the River Thames, “ Aunt Marie announced. She then smiled and waited for their response. After a moment of hushed silence, Amanda whooped with joy and the others followed suit. “All of you will want to bring your skies along! After all you may get a chance to ski on River Thames, or rather Ice Thames!” Aunt Marie finished. The girls could hardly believe their ears as they heard the delightful news. All they could do was to thank Aunt Marie repeatedly.
They had a wonderful afternoon at The Thames – they had so much fun; they had completely forgotten about the time! In fact, they were in the middle of their eighth snowball fight when Aunt Marie reminded them that it was time to go. They stopped at a Western Food store on their way back where they had a plate of fish and chips each.
As night fell, the trio and Aunt Marie sighed contently as they made their way home. As they reached their lodging, Jasmine said dreamily,’’ this is the best day I’ve ever had!’’ The others nodded in silent agreement. They headed for their rooms and fell asleep as soon as their heads touched their pillows, snoring peacefully.
As morning arrived, the pale sunlight was spilt across the girls’ room. The girls awoke from their slumber, rubbing their eyes sleepily and yawning. “I wish I hadn’t skied so much yesterday!” Gladys groaned ruefully, massaging her aching muscles. They marched into the kitchen, where Aunt Marie announced ,“I have planned the activities for today. I’ m taking you to the shopping mall to shop after breakfast!” The girls perked up immediately. Hurriedly, they finished their breakfasts and set off with Aunt Marie in her blue limousine.
First they visited Harrods , a brand famous for teddies and big shopping bags, where Gladys fell in love with a gigantic bear. It was soft and cuddly, and nice to feel. Aunt Marie gave her the permission to buy it. Then, Aunt Marie bought six adorable mini-sized bears, two for each of the girls. They were so pleased and they hugged Aunt Marie happily. As lunch time arrived, Aunt Marie treated the girls to a posh French restaurant, where they ordered lots and lots of French food. Even Amanda, who was a very picky eater, declared it was the best meal she ever had. After everybody was full, they went round the shops to buy souvenirs like bookmarks, pens, books, toys and even a few bottles of wine to give away to their respective family members and friends. They had a great time selecting the gifts. Then, Aunt Marie brought them to visit Big Ben, the most famous clock in the whole world. The girls stared in awe at it, admiring the skilful carvings and engravings on it. After sightseeing, they went home for dinner, and soon snuggled cosily in their beds.
The next day was the last day of their visit, as usual, they ate their breakfasts cheerfully, and then decided to make an igloo and snow angels. They pulled on their coats and hurried outside to attempt making an igloo. Their first attempt was a huge failure! They could not manage to get the snow to pack tightly together and therefore, it kept sliding apart. The girls were very disappointed . Still, they cheered up as the snow angels were a great success .The girls collected stones and sticks to decorate their snow angels. When Aunt Marie came out to tell them that lunch
would be ready in two hours time, Gladys asked her to name the snow angels. They had a great time laughing at the funny and silly names that they gave to the snow angels. After Aunt Marie went back in, they began tobogganing and skied on the ice. They were determined to play as much as they could before leaving England.
They panted heavily when they came in, exhausted from their morning activities. As they sat down to enjoy the delicious spread of food prepared by Aunt Marie for them, Aunt Marie presented them with a purple silken bag. Curious, Amanda peeped inside the bag. She was surprised to find that the bag was filled with a variety of candies and a small teddy with their names embroidered on it. Aunt Marie smiled. ‘‘It’s just a small gift for you.’’ She smiled generously. The girls were surprised and pleased; and they chorused, ‘‘thank you’’.
After lunch, aunt Marie brought them to the airport in time to catch the flight back to Singapore. ‘‘Goodbye!’’ They bade a cheerful farewell to Aunt Marie. Aunt Marie waved to them and replied, ‘‘Hope that I’ll see you all soon. Have a safe journey!’’
on, they were on the aeroplane back home, back to their island home, Singapore!
